Protecting the Water, Ecology,
and Fish and Wildlife Habitats

Healthy waterways — from our streams and rivers to wetlands and lakes to the Puget Sound and Pacific Ocean — are critical to the well-being our states and the people and ecosystems that depend on them. Futurewise works to protect our water, fish and wildlife through place-based projects and by shaping our comprehensive plans, development regulations, and shoreline master programs.

Program highlights:

  • In 2023, Futurewise worked to pass an update to the Growth Management Act that adds climate planning, ensuring that coastal communities are protecting valuable habitat from sea level rise.
  • In Port Angeles, Futurewise leads the GreenLink Advisory Committee, a community effort to restore the urban watershed of Port Angeles.
