Find out how you can help Futurewise advocate for better community planning here in Spokane!

Shape your community’s future and build your resume by working on city/regional planning issues!

Please call 838-1965 or email kitty@futurewise.org for more information on our many rewarding volunteer opportunities.
Futurewise is dedicated to empowering communities to make better decisions about land use and transportation that will lead to a better quality of life for residents without damaging forests and farmlands with irresponsible development. If that sounds interesting to you, please get involved by volunteering some of your time for one or more of the following projects.
Vision Spokane:
Work on a campaign! Excellent learning opportunity for anyone interested in advocacy or campaign work.
Our current upcoming campaign is a “view corridors” campaign for keeping Spokane scenic. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate this campaign. This job includes contacting Spokane residents and the city council, and it also provides experience with advocacy tools like online campaigning, flickr, and other creative avenues of community advocacy.
County Tracking:
Valuable experience for anyone interested in a career in planning!
Futurewise tracks the progress of important planning projects such as updates of Comprehensive Plans, Critical Areas Ordinances, Shoreline Master Plans, and Development Regulations in 12 counties in Eastern Washington. Volunteers are needed to help track and chart these planning updates so that we can review drafts, submit comments, and generate local public support for better planning. This job will provide the most experience with planning departments and county planners.

General Outreach:
Help Futurewise spread the word about a better future for our communities!
Learn about participating in planning processes for your community’s future and help get other people in your community involved. No prior knowledge of county planning is needed. We need volunteers help get information to people about Smart Growth, Transportation, Density, Climate Change, and other issues that effect our communities. This job will give you the most experience working with the public and students, and it will familiarize with the public interest side of land use. This job includes staffing tables at events and helping to create literature and visual aids.

Data Entry:
Work behind the scenes to keep everything up-to-date!
If you only have a couple hours a week to offer, or if you prefer computer tasks, you can still make a big difference by helping us keep track of data. This helps Futurewise ensure that our members and activists have all the current news they need to positively effect planning in their communities.

More:
There are more ways to help out!
There are many more ways you can help. Please contact Kitty (see contact information above) if you are interested in volunteering but had something else in mind.

Please call 838-1965 or email kitty@futurewise.org for more information on our many rewarding volunteer opportunities.
