2009 Legislative Agenda
The 2009 legislative session is underway and Futurewise is working to advance a legislative agenda that supports good growth management and prevents rollbacks of community protections. Below is summary of our legislative agenda for 2009, click on any of the headings to get more detailed information.
Creating Transit-Oriented Communities
Transit-Oriented Communities would revise the state’s transportation and land-use planning framework to assist local jurisdictions to plan for growth in a sustainable and climate-friendly way. The bill will provide incentives for cities and developers to create affordable, livable, transit-oriented development, increasing transportation choices.
Our TOC priority is one of the Environmental community's top four legislative Priorities this year! To learn more about the other three Environmental Priorities, click here.Stop growing in floodplains (HB 1967)
This bill will help prevent damage to people & property, save taxpayer dollars, and
protect the environment. It's a common sense bill that will prevent further
urbanization of our floodplains.
Regional Transfer of Development Rights Program (HB 1172 / SB 5165)
Two years ago we helped pass the TDR market place bill which created a stakeholder group to recommend how to better link preserving rural and resource lands with focusing growth inside our urban communities. Now we're looking to move forward with this group's recommendations. Funding for Smart Growth (HB 1360)
Funding for basic infrastructure that supports increased capacity for dense, affordable residential development in transit-oriented neighborhoods: low-interest loans to local jurisdictions and grants to nonprofit housing developers.
