King County
Futurewise is working to help King County manage growth responsibly. Our County is home to incredible farm and forest land and precious rural communities, in addition to the thriving metropolitan centers. In order to conserve natural resources and protect communities’ rural quality of life, King County needs to focus growth in our urban areas.

King County is in the process of updating its comprehensive plan. This is an important opportunity to help our communities grow in ways that protect our environment, reduce our contribution to global warming, and improve our quality of life.
King County’s Draft 2008 Comprehensive Plan includes policies that encourage sustainable development, protect resource lands, promote renewable energy, and increase the use of transit.
While most of the County's draft plan puts us on track to be a national leader on Local Solutions to Global Warming, a couple of provisions could use some improvement. The County is considering urban growth expansions in Duvall and Snoqualmie. Allowing these expansions will increase vehicle trips to the outskirts of an urban area and add new development pressure to the surrounding rural community.
Please
email the Council today and tell them you want King County to be a leader on
local solutions to global warming, and the 2008 Comprehensive Plan a great
place to start! Click here!
Shoreline Protections
The County is making critical decisions in the upcoming year about how to protect Shorelines and the Puget Sound as it updates our Shoreline Master Program.
