Dear Supporters of Futurewise,
I’m writing to inform you that our Executive Director, Chris Wierzbicki, has resigned from Futurewise effective July 30th. Chris was offered a position as the Public Works Director for the City of Bainbridge Island (where he has lived for 12 years), and has decided to accept the offer for both personal and professional reasons. Chris has been a real asset for Futurewise since he joined in 2015, so it is with great sadness that I share this announcement, but I wish him well in his new endeavors, I know he will do well for the City.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working with Chris and the Board’s Executive Committee to determine what our next steps will be on selecting an interim or permanent director. My hope is that we will be able to work quickly enough to take advantage of the six remaining weeks of Chris’ time, with the goal of having an overlap period between him and the next director.
I have every reason to believe that we will work through the transition in a way that strengthens the organization for the long term, as we have a lot of important work ahead that Chris helped set us on a trajectory to accomplish. That work includes responding to the upcoming Road Map to Washington recommendations on GMA updates; supporting the implementation of recent housing density legislation (HB 1923); and, charting a course for the equitable application of growth management as our cities struggle with affordability, homelessness and climate change.
Thank you for your continued support as we work through this transition, and we look forward to updating you with next steps in the coming weeks.
Futurewise Board President
