2018 Spring Breakfast & Livable Communities Awards

March 13, 2018

7:30 to 9:00 AM at The Westin Seattle

Futurewise is delighted to offer this annual opportunity to recognize, celebrate and express our gratitude to our exceptional community partners - those who are using innovative policies, strategies and projects to successfully protect our natural resource areas; to create affordable housing across the income spectrum; and to build healthy, livable communities through equitable transit-oriented development, protection of open space and working lands. Please join us to celebrate their vision and accomplishment.

"Storytelling for Connection and Community"

A committed artist/activist and a fierce believer in the power of art to encourage social change, Sonja Parks is an accomplished actor who has been featured with the world’s best companies, including The Public Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company, and The Kennedy Center.

Sonja’s desire to improve society for all people(s) has led her to many parts of the world including Nigeria, Ghana, Germany, Iceland, Cuba, and South Africa.  Her panel, Race, Colonization & Art: An Afro-Global Perspective, was featured as part of the Theatre Communications Group/Global Theatre Initiative's inaugural International Conference and she has worked with luminaries such as Nicholas Kristof, Ann Curry and George Clooney.  Currently on national tour with Seedfolks, a one-woman play about a diverse group of characters who turn an abandoned city lot into a community garden, Sonja is pleased to share her insights on how storytelling can help build transformative communities.
