Kittitas Win Protects Rural Areas and Water Quality
The Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearing's Board ruled in Futurewise's and local partners favor!
The Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearings Board ruled in Futurewise’s and local partners Kittitas County Conservation and RIDGE’s favor on 8 out of 9 issues regarding the County’s development regulations. Significantly, the Board has also granted invalidity on rural densities at 1 dwelling unit per 3 acres or greater, stopping a vesting rush in the county. Some of our issues were “follow on” issues to our summer victory regarding the County’s comprehensive plan. Others, such as improper urban uses in rural and agricultural areas, were new. In total, this victory affects thousands of acres, and a broad spectrum of land use issues, ranging from exempt wells affecting water quality to highway commercial zone uses damaging the County’s rural character.
The County has appealed portions of the prior order governing the comprehensive plan, and we expect the County to appeal this order as well.
