This week, Local Solutions to Global Warming (SB6580) passed its FINAL vote in the legislature. The bill now goes to the Governor’s desk for her signature. To everyone who called or emailed their legislators, wrote letters to their local papers, or came to lobby day in Olympia – THANK YOU!
There are two people that deserve a special thank you and a whole lot of recognition: our prime sponsors Senator Chris Marr (Spokane) and Representative Geoff Simpson (Federal Way). These two legislators are true climate champions!

This bill represents a critical first step toward addressing land use decisions’ impact on climate change, and it sets us up to make major policy improvements in the next few years. We never could have taken this important step without Senator Marr and Representative Simpson.
Our opponents came out in force against Local Solutions to Global Warming. They would have succeeded in killing the bill if Senator Marr and Representative Simpson hadn’t been such tireless advocates, working with leadership, lobbying their colleagues, and negotiating with the diverse interests that cared about the bill.
