King County Grows Cooler
Right now, King County is updating its Comprehensive Plan, the County’s blue print for growth in our region. King County’s Draft 2008 Comprehensive Plan includes policies that encourage sustainable development, protect resource lands, promote renewable energy, and increase the use of transit.
We know that the choices made in land use and zoning plans lock us into patterns that determine our global warming pollution for decades. With a million more people coming to our region, we need to grow in ways that reduce driving and meet the growing demand for green walkable communities.
While most of the County's draft plan puts us on track to be a national
leader on Local Solutions to Global Warming, a couple of provisions could use
some improvement. The County is considering urban growth expansions in Duvall
and Snoqualmie. Allowing these expansions will increase vehicle trips to the
outskirts of an urban area and add new development pressure to the surrounding
rural community.
Click here to email the Council today and tell them you want King County to be a leader on local solutions to global warming, and their 2008 Comprehensive Plan a great place to start!
Rather tell them in person?
